PACE will build on previous work of the EAPC Taskforce Palliative care in long term care settings for older people to deliver an updated EAPC Taskforce report. In the previous report, a number of important geographic regions of Europe were not represented and the development of palliative care systems in all countries was not systematically mapped and classified. Country representatives of all parts of Europe will be involved. PACE will specifically monitor to include countries with well- and less well-developed long term care systems and facilities. More specifically, the following EAPC-affiliated countries will be included:
- Western European countries part of the previous EAPC Taskforce on Long term care: Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, The Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and UK
- Western European countries to be included in the renewed Taskforce under PACE: Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Iceland, Israel, Luxemburg
- Central and Eastern European countries to be included in the renewed Taskforce under PACE: Albania, Croatia-Hrvatska, Czech Republic, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania
The report will provide essential information against which to interpret the studies I and II of PACE and can help countries outside of the PACE consortium to interpret the study results within their own care or nursing homes’ structures. The report will also bridge to the activities of the EAPC Taskforce on the Development of Palliative Care in Europe by integrating country reports on palliative care in care or nursing homes as amendment of the renewed European Atlas of Palliative Care, a resource for service development, strategic policy-making initiatives and benchmarking. This Atlas on palliative care shows individual country reports on palliative care development across Europe but has so far not included developments in care or nursing homes.
