Needs of socially isolated persons in home care: the views of socially isolated patients with cancer and their caregivers

Single or socially isolated patients with cancer have specific psycho-social needs. However, until now, little is known about the specific needs of these patients. Neither do we know which subgroups are especially vulnerable and therefore need extra support.

The aim of this study is to 1) get a good insight in the needs of socially isolated persons with cancer and which needs they perceive as the most threatening, 2) the identification of the extra vulnerable subgroups within this population.

Methods: a systematic review of the literature, qualitative interviews with socially isolated patients with cancer and focus groups with caregivers (nurses, carers and general practitioners).
