Barbara Antunes is a Marie Curie PhD Training Fellow in EUROIMPACT and her research aims to study a variety of outcome assessment scales to monitor and improve palliative care and how they benefit patient and family care. Programmes to be studied include but are not limited to: the POS (Palliative Outcome Scale); the MSAS (Memorial Symptom Assessment Scale) and ESAS (Edmonton Symptom Assessment Scale); pain modules in the interrRAI Long Term Care Facility, a comprehensive standardized instrument for evaluating needs, strengths and preferences at the end of life of those in chronic care and institutional settings; a computerized clinical decision support tool developed for the treatment of cancer pain and cancer related symptoms. Barbara will work on studying different ways of measuring palliative outcomes and how they impact symptom assessment and treatment, and will work closely with Elene Janberidze. Barbara works at King’s College London, London, UK and will travel to the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondheim, Norway for 6 months.
